Darione’ Powell of South Plaquemines High School participated in the 2013 American Legion Oratorical Competition Louisiana State Championship. The state championship was held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at American Legion Post 38 on March 10, 2013. Darione’ placed third in Louisiana.
Contestants were required to prepare an 8-10 minute oration on an assigned topic about the Constitution. Afterwards, contestants were required to deliver a 3-5 minute oration on a surprise topic; they were given five minutes to prepare. A total of eight contestants participated from around the state of Louisiana; Darione’ represented District 2.
